Koninklijke Verkade N.V. is a subsidiary company of United Biscuits, an international operating food company, focusing on it’s core activity (savoury) biscuits. United Biscuits has a head quarter in the United Kingdom. Well-known brands in the Netherlands are Verkade and Sultana with a great history, enthusiastic consumers and tasteful products. Other International brands are BN, McVities, Go Ahead! and Delacre. In Zaandam some 450 employees are working on contemporary, valuable and successful brands which fit to current and future consumer needs and developments. At Koninklijke Verkade the marketing department is headed by the local Head of Marketing, with both the Verkade and Sultana brand under his supervision. Both brand teams are led by a senior marketeer. Today, we are searching for a dedicated Marketing Manager to lead the Sultana brand team. The Marketing Manager Sultana will lead the Sultana brand including a team of 3 Brand Managers, to achieve the marketing, revenue and profit goals set for the brand in the local market. The candidate will report to the Head of Marketing UB Netherlands. The Sultana brand contains a biscuit oriented product range divided over different segments in the ‘In Between Meals / Healthier’ category. The brand is sold in the Netherlands, Belgium and will be sold in France as of 2014. Brand leadership for all markets lies with the Marketing Manager for Sultana based in the Netherlands. The market is highly competitative and under pressure over the last years. The economic crisis puts additional challenges as consumers focus on price, promo, and also tending more towards Private Label and Hard Discount. Strategic challenges: pressured market environment, tough competition from PL, HD and A-brands, growing share of FruitBiscuit core, delivering New Product Development projects for future growth, brand strategy and communication development, profitability improvement, alignment with other UB countries and regions. The Sultana Marketing Manager role requires a highly pro-active posture: continuous adaptation to changing internal and external circumstances is required in order to defend and improve the brand position. Furthermore, Marketing is the leading function between Sales and Trade Marketing, NPD, Technical and Manufacturing and pro-activity as well as flexibility is required to manage and deliver projects, results and change. The Marketing Manager has a direct link to several different departments on a daily basis: Sales and Trade Marketing, Research & Insights, Demand Planning, Logistics, Finance, NPD Technical, Manufacturing and Legal. Due to the interlinkage with other countries, the Marketing Manager Sultana also is in direct contact with Marketing, Innovation and Research & Insights in BE, FR, UK. This role offers the opportunity to work on all marketing mix elements - from brand strategy and product development, to communications strategy and brand activation - for a leading A-brand, in a highly competitive and dynamic market. With the commercial offices situated on the Zaandam factory site, the locations for this marketing role allows the Marketing Manager to work in very diverse multidisciplinary teams. An unique challenge for a strong and dedicated marketeer, proven successful in driving brand growth. Marketing Management activities and responsibilities: Develops, implements and drives the Sultana brand strategy through a 3 year plan and realizes the brand strategy via annually executed brand plans; Maintains and supports the brand vision, brand essence, target group and product portfolio; Develops and implements the innovation, media, social media, communication and PR strategies; Defines, develops and launches New Product Developments, Extension Product Developments and (re-)designs; Leads the development and execution of consumer promotions, brand activations and BTL + ATL communication including media planning; Brand leader for the Sultana brand for Northern European region; Commercial linking pin between Northern Europe and UK for FruitBiscuits platform and Northern European commercial lead in FruitBiscuits platform meetings; Budget and process management of the projects within the scope of the function and brand; Managerial and Leadership activities and responsibilities: Leads a team of (senior) brand managers (3 head counts) to achieve the annual brand and product targets on consumer, market and financial level; Guide, motivate and develop a team of (senior) brand managers to achieve the brand objectives, strategy and plans; Coach the team in personal development and provide succession planning; Provide clear leadership, vision and direction to the team of (senior) brand managers, other marketers and departments around the marketing team; Leads strategic projects in cross functional and sometimes cross regional teams; KPI’s: Brand revenue and profitability, Market share, Brand awareness, Penetration and Repeat, Pricing, NPD roll-out, Rotation on Shelf, Advertising effectiveness. The candidate has to have experience in strategic marketing planning, NPD process and marketing communications, including making briefings for agencies (varying from advertising to market research agencies) and Media Planning. Experience in Sales / Account Management, as well as Trade Marketing is a pre. We are looking for a candidate with preferably 5 years of people management/leadership experience. Qualification at university level is required, combined with a high level of self-support and stress resistance. For this position it is required that the candidate is fluent (written and spoken) in Dutch and English. The ideal candidate has strong analytical-, P&L management-, presentation-, communication- and interpersonal relationship skills at senior level.
